A NOTE FORM THE WEBMASTER, DAVID K.

We had performed our tribute to Roy Orbison a few years back, maybe 2023, in the Dallas area. During intermission the head usher came back to tell me that there were 28 people from Roy’s childhood home, Wink, Texas that wanted to speak with me after the show. I asked, “Are they happy?” She said yes that they were. After the show, in a beautiful opera house, I went out, still costumed, and we all had a chat. Two had actually been high school classmates of Roy. One told a story of how Roy begged him to let Roy teach him string bass for to play a gig he’d gotten, and another of how for choir the boys would rehearse in the boy’s restroom because it had high ceilings and the ceramic made the acoustics amazing. I shot video of the chats and stories and will post them here on the site. One gentleman, Jerry Wilson and I kept in touch. I had asked them if we could find a way to come to Wink to do a fundraising show for the museum. Jerry has tirelessly communicated with Wink city officials and school district folks, trying to find a way, a date, a venue in the small town where we could hold an event. Bounce ahead to 2026, and we just finished a tour performing in Arizona, Sedona and Tucson shows. We are Minneapolis based and worked our way home passing through Wink and Lubbock to see Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison museums. I called Jerry and he was excited, as we were, to meet with him in Wink and see the museum. We can’t thank Jerry enough for setting up city and school meetings to chat about a possible event. It’ll be the 100th anniversary of Wink, Texas on May 9, 2026 and we are penciled in to perform at their celebration. We’re still trying to create an additional fundraising event, maybe on that evening at the school’s new auditorium, to raise funds to upgrade and enhance the museum. We had a wonderful visit to the museum, tried on a pair of Roy’s original sunglasses donated by his 2nd wife Barbara. We saw the hundred dollar check Roy endorsed, given to him by the local radio station to get him to Texas. We saw a piece of Carl Perkins’ personal stationery upon which all 4 Beatles signed a note of best wishes to the museum. There is so much more to see in this humble one room little museum. But for certain, it does need help with upgrades and recurring maintenance. Please stay tuned here for info on May 9th, and for updates on upgrades. Please support the site’s online store and shop for Roy memorabilia and some about ours and other tributes to Roy’s legacy. A portion of the proceeds will go the museum. I’m honor to donate time to  create and host this website in memory and celebration of the great Roy Orbison. May his music live forever.
